A full Belize wedding for 50 guests runs about $25,000 to $35,000 in 2026. Published packages start far lower, often between $1,600 and $10,000, because they cover the ceremony basics and little else. Belize prices most things one at a time instead of bundling them, so photography, decor, lighting, music and staffing land on top. Here is the real breakdown, and the point where Mexico becomes the better choice.
Almost every couple researching the cost of a Belize wedding finds two numbers and no way to connect them. A resort page quotes $1,899. A forum thread says $40,000. Neither one tells you what your wedding will cost.
That gap causes real damage. Couples build a budget around a package price, send save the dates, and then find out that photography, lighting, music, chairs and a meal their guests will remember are all separate line items. By then the venue is booked and the number has moved.
We have been planning weddings in Belize since 2012, more than 850 of them. Rachael has lived here the whole time. We see the final invoices, not just the brochures.
Below we cover what a Belize wedding costs at three sizes, why Belize is more expensive than people expect, what packages include and leave out, what your guests pay on their own, the deposit nobody warns you about, and the one situation where we tell couples to look at Mexico instead.
How much does a wedding in Belize actually cost?
A full Belize wedding for 50 guests costs about $25,000 to $35,000 in 2026. That covers the ceremony, the reception, a welcome event, decor, photography, music and coordination. It does not include your guests’ flights or their hotel rooms, which they pay themselves. A two-person elopement starts near $2,000.
Here is how that breaks down by the size of the wedding you are actually planning.
| What you are planning | Guests | Your cost | What drives the number |
| Elopement or two-person ceremony | 2 | $2,000 to $5,000 | Officiant, licence, photographer, flowers |
| Small island or jungle wedding | 20 to 30 | $12,000 to $20,000 | Private venue, plated dinner, decor, music |
| Full wedding weekend, Ambergris Caye | 50 | $25,000 to $35,000 | Welcome event, full reception, DJ, decor, staffing |
| Buyout of a small property | 30 to 50 | Varies widely | You pay for every room, filled or not |
For context, The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study puts the average American wedding at $34,200 and the average international destination wedding at $43,700. A Belize wedding is not usually a bargain. It is usually a similar number spent on a completely different experience.
Why Belize costs more than couples expect
Belize is a small country running a small tourism economy. The World Bank puts the population at about 417,000, and the Belize Tourism Board recorded 551,698 overnight visitors in 2025. Cancun’s airport alone handles tens of millions of passengers a year. That difference shows up in your invoice.
- No economy of scale. There is no volume discount on flowers, linens or liquor when the whole country buys in small quantities.
- Small properties. Our largest hotel is around 150 rooms. Copal Tree Lodge has 16 suites and Seiri del Mar has 27 villas. Small properties cannot spread event costs across hundreds of rooms.
- Imports. Specialty produce, wine, rental furniture and decor often come in from Mexico or the United States, and they arrive with freight costs attached.
- Transport is part of production. Getting a photographer, a DJ and rental chairs to an island or a jungle lodge means a boat, a plane or a long drive, and it gets billed.
Couples are often surprised that weddings in Belize are not as affordable as they thought.
What is in a Belize wedding package, and what is not?
A Belize wedding package usually covers the ceremony setup, a coordinator or officiant, a simple arch and seating, a cake and a toast. Published prices run from about $1,599 for an elopement to $10,000 as a starting price at larger properties. Photography, upgraded flowers, lighting, music, transport and the reception meal are almost always priced on top.
Hidden Valley Wilderness Lodge is a useful example, because its wedding packages are published: $1,599 for a two-person elopement, $2,099 for up to 10 guests, and $4,147 for a jungle celebration of up to 35. Those are real numbers, and they are also only the starting point.
| Usually included | Usually extra |
| Ceremony setup and basic seating | Photography and video |
| Officiant or minister | Reception meal and bar beyond the basics |
| Simple arch and florals | Upgraded flowers, chairs and linens |
| Small cake and a toast | Lighting, dance floor, DJ or live music |
| On-site coordinator for the day | Transport for guests and vendors |
| Marriage licence processing (sometimes) | Welcome event and day-after party |
What the $10,000 quote leaves out
When a couple tells us another planner quoted $10,000 for 50 guests, we do not argue. We ask what is on the list. Usually several of these are missing.
- Lighting. The sun sets early in the tropics. Once it is dark, your reception needs light, and that is a line item in the thousands, not the hundreds.
- Enough staff. We read banquet orders looking for server counts. A group of 50 with three servers is a slow, frustrating dinner, and the resort will not flag it for you.
- Real chairs and tables. The quote may assume the plastic beach chairs already on site.
- The meal you pictured. A simple local meal is genuinely good. It is also not what most couples mean when they say buffet dinner for 50.
- Sound. A Bluetooth speaker is not a DJ, and a ceremony on a windy beach needs a microphone.
- Decor and centerpieces. Almost never included at the base price.
The biggest mistake we see is not overspending. It is planning around a number that was never going to hold.

What do your guests pay for?
Your guests pay for their own flights, hotel rooms and in-country transfers. In Belize a transfer is rarely one step. A guest flying to Ambergris Caye lands at the international airport, clears immigration, takes a 15-minute island hopper flight, then takes a boat, taxi or golf cart to the hotel.
Each of those steps has a price. Show your guests the full number before they commit, not just the airfare. By comparison, couples hosting in the United States spend an average of $292 per guest themselves. A destination wedding shifts part of that cost to the people attending, which is a different structure rather than a smaller total.
Destination weddings also run smaller. Industry data puts the typical destination guest count at 50 to 70, against 117 for a wedding at home. Guest count is the single strongest lever on your budget, in either country.
The deposit nobody warns you about
A room block is a set of rooms the hotel holds for your guests at an agreed rate. In Mexico, a big resort might hold them for around $100 a room. Fifteen rooms means $1,500 up front, refunded as guests book.
Belize works differently. Our hotels are small, so pulling 15 rooms out of inventory is a real risk for them. Expect to put down one or two nights per room, or 50 percent of the contract value. That can be tens of thousands of dollars, returned to you or applied to your wedding balance as guests book.
A buyout, where you take every room at a small property, works the same way with one difference: you pay for every room whether it fills or not. If you are not comfortable putting money down early, Belize is a hard fit.
What does it cost to get legally married in Belize?
The legal side is the cheapest part. The marriage licence is a few hundred dollars per couple, issued under the Marriage Act by the Attorney General’s Ministry. You need to be in the country three days before you apply, and no blood test is required. Belize marriages are recognised internationally.
The cost that catches people is the logistics around it: trips to the government office, a registered marriage officer, and travel from an island to the mainland. Our full breakdown lives on our Belize marriage requirements page.
When is Mexico the better financial answer?
If your total budget is under about $20,000, or your guest list is over 100 people, Mexico will almost always give you more wedding for the money. Mexican resorts bundle food, drinks and venue into the room rate at scale. Belize prices those things separately, and our largest hotels are a fraction of the size.
We suggest looking at Mexico instead when:
- Your guest list is over 100 and you want everyone in one place
- You want a true all-inclusive with several restaurants and a full bar
- Several guests are nervous or first-time international travelers
- Your budget is tight enough that a $3,000 overage would hurt
- Multiple guests have mobility needs
Belize earns its price when privacy, a small guest list and a setting your guests have never seen before matter more than convenience. You can marry on a Maya temple, beside a private waterfall or on a sandbar in the middle of the sea. Those are not options in Cancun. Our Belize wedding venues pages show what each setting looks like in practice.

The short version
Budget $25,000 to $35,000 for 50 guests in Belize, and treat any number far below that as incomplete until you see the line items. Build your budget around your guest count first, because it moves the total more than any other decision. Ask for the full list before you sign, including lighting, staffing, transport and the room block deposit.
If you want a real number for your specific guest count and the kind of weekend you have in mind, tell us what you are planning and we will give you an honest range before you book anything. You can also read our Belize destination wedding FAQ for the questions couples ask us most.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Belize wedding cheaper than getting married in the US?
Usually it is close, not cheaper. The average American wedding costs $34,200, and a 50-guest Belize wedding runs about $25,000 to $35,000. You save on guest count, because fewer people travel, and you spend more per head on logistics.
What does a Belize elopement cost?
Plan on $2,000 to $5,000 for two people, including the licence, an officiant, flowers and a photographer. Published elopement packages start around $1,599. See our Belize elopement options for what that includes.
How many guests can a Belize wedding handle?
About 100 is the practical ceiling anywhere in the country, and over 50 guests you are almost certainly on Ambergris Caye. Placencia and the jungle lodges are built for smaller groups.
Is an all-inclusive package in Belize really all-inclusive?
Not in the way most couples mean. All-inclusive in Belize usually means one breakfast, one lunch, one dinner and local beer and rum. It does not mean several restaurants and 24-hour service. That level exists in Mexico, Jamaica and the Bahamas.
How far in advance should we book?
Twelve months is comfortable, and popular dates at small properties go earlier than that. Because Belize hotels are small, the room block is what sells out first, not the wedding date.
