Whether you need a beach wedding permit in Tulum depends on the type of ceremony you envision!

By law, beaches in Mexico have some form of public access. That being said, beach wedding can still feel private. We work with properties that know how to set up of the beach ceremonies that feel intimate and private.  Also, the time of day you choose for your ceremony can influence how private it feels -- think  a midday wedding vs. a sunset wedding.

For symbolic ceremonies on the public beaches, permits are generally not needed. For legally binding ceremonies, you'll need to get married at a licensed venue like a resort or cenote, which handles the legal aspects and permits.

When is the best time of the year to have a wedding in Tulum?

Finding the "best" time for a Tulum wedding depends on your priorities! Here's a breakdown to help you decide:

Sunny Skies & Warm Breezes (November - April):

  • Pros: Peak season with ideal weather - sunny days, warm temperatures, perfect for beach ceremonies and outdoor receptions.

  • Cons: Higher prices for flights, accommodations, and wedding packages. Crowds can be larger, especially during holidays.

Shoulder Seasons (May & October):

  • Pros: Pleasant weather with fewer crowds and slightly lower prices than peak season. May offers turtle nesting season for nature lovers. October marks the end of hurricane season.

  • Cons: Potential for occasional rain showers. Some resorts might have limited availability.

Low Season (June - September):

  • Pros: Lowest prices and smallest crowds. Perfect for budget-conscious couples seeking a more intimate experience.

  • Cons: Hurricane season (June-November) brings the risk of storms. Increased humidity and chance of rain showers. If you choose to host your destination wedding during low season, we always recommend travel insurance to protect your plans.

Additional Tips:

  • Consider your guests' comfort level when choosing a season. Older guests might prefer cooler temperatures, while younger groups might enjoy the vibrant energy of peak season.

  • If you're flexible with dates, consider weekdays for better deals and smaller crowds.

  • Keep in mind specific events happening during your chosen time frame that might affect prices or availability.

  • Consider local holidays that might impact certain dates

Can I have my ceremony on the beach and my reception at a different location for my Tulum  destination wedding?

Yes! At most properties, you have the option of having your beach wedding, then transition to a second venue for the reception. Unless you have your heart set on a beach reception, we often suggest considering a non-beach reception venue the remainder of the evening. Both beach or non-beach receptions can be great. But, sometimes the sandy setting can be tricky for dinner and dancing.

Can  I customize destination wedding packages in Tulum?

For the most part, you can customize destination wedding packages in Tulum. Most properties have packages, but you can add on additional items on an a-la-carte basis. To figure out all the details and exact pricing, you typically connect with the wedding coordinator at your wedding property. They will help you decide which wedding package fits you best and also price out any additional services and offerings. That's when get you a full, detailed invoice. Once you go  over your wish list with the wedding coordinator they usually can compare the cost of a lower package + extras vs. a higher package that already includes those extras. But, if you want extra flowers/boutonnieres you can get those through your property.
